During your stay at Le Casacce, a visit to the beautiful cities of Siena,
Florence and Pisa are not to be missed, but there are also some intriguing and charming lesser-known towns and
villages nearby that are also worth a visit. From the wonderful renaissance architecture of Pienza, the mystical
beauty of the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, the antique Etruscan sites, the opulence of Montepulciano and the fascinating
mistery of the fortresses of Potentino and Velona, you won't be disappointed! You can also experience the masterpieces
in the Garden of Daniel Spoerri, one of the major contemporary artists of our days.
Guided walking tours organized by experienced local professionals are also available. Divided into themes, you
can discover the animals of the natural park; the flowers and plants of the Amiata mountain, the wild aromatic
herbs uses for cooking and for medicine, the wineyards of the Brunello area, the Chestnuts path, the tour of the
medieval castles and fortresses, and the streams and waterfalls of the surrounding area, so there really is something
to tempt everyone!
Just 15km from Le Casacce are the Thermal springs of San Filippo and Bagno Vignoni, where can truly relax whilst
the stresses and strains of modern life are literally washed away in the peaceful setting reminiscent of times
gone by.
For those keen to follow their gastronomic interests, guests at Le Casacce can visit the historical wine cellars
of Montalcino and Montepulciano to taste a variety of the superb local wines, the de.c.o. cheese products, the
cold-pressed olive oils of Seggiano, the home made cold-cuts and pork products of Castel del Piano, the cured row
ham of Santa Flora, the "pecorino" cheese of Pienza, the chestnuts of the Amiata mountain, and the honey
of the small beekeepers of Pescina.
With parts of the property dating back to 1260, Le Casacce has been completely restructured since the 1990's to
reintroduce the traditional oil-pressing methods and now produces an extraordinary cold pressed extra virgin oil
extracted from the typical olive fruit of Seggiano. Due to its unique taste, and the antioxidant substances contained
in it, it is even considered to be curative.
Once you have sampled the delights of the local area, within an hours' drive you can be on the stunning white sandy
beaches of the Argentario peninsula where you swim in the warm turqouise waters and recharge your batteries with
solar power.
During the winter season, modern and well equipped ski sport facilities are situated on the Amiata mountain (1780
mts.) which are just 30 minutes away by car.
